A New Year, A New Beginning, and a Gentle Reminder of Who We Can Be

Elga Lejarza reflecting with hope and peace at the start of 2026.

A new year always feels like a quiet pause before the world starts moving again. January 1st is not about resolutions for me. It is about intention. It is about waking up with hope, even after a year that may have been heavy, uncertain, or exhausting. As we step into 2026, my heart is full of gratitude and possibility. Gratitude for making it here. Possibility for what this year can bring if we allow ourselves to believe again.

My wish for this year is simple but powerful. Peace. Not only peace in the world and in our country, but peace in our homes, our workplaces, our hearts, and our conversations with one another. Peace in how we speak. Peace in how we listen. Peace in how we treat people who think differently, live differently, or walk a different path than our own. We need more grace and less judgment. More understanding and fewer assumptions.

I also hold a special place in my heart for anyone starting this year unemployed, uncertain, or afraid of what comes next. If that is you, I am wishing with everything I have that 2026 becomes the year you land not just a job, but the right job. A place where you are valued, respected, and seen. A role that restores your confidence and reminds you of your worth. Sometimes the hardest chapters lead us exactly where we were meant to be.

For those of us who are working, leading, teaching, or caring for others, my hope is that we become the best version of ourselves this year. Not perfect. Just better. Kinder. More patient. More courageous. Growth does not always look loud. Sometimes it looks like setting boundaries, speaking up when it matters, or choosing compassion even when it would be easier not to.

As we step into 2026, let us remember that we all carry something unseen. Everyone is fighting a quiet battle. This year, I hope we lead with humanity. I hope we choose connection over division. I hope we slow down enough to appreciate the people around us and the moments that truly matter. May this year bring healing, opportunity, and the kind of peace that stays with us long after January ends.

Happy New Year 2026
